Avalanche Awareness

If you're planning to ski off-piste, then some knowledge of avalanche awareness is vital. This one day course will give you an introduction to the risks, how best to avoid them, and how to search for buried skiers if the worst should happen.

We meet outside the Grands Montets telepherique station in Argentiere at 0900 unless previously arranged otherwise. We will spend the day skiing off piste in this area. The program is flexible depending on snow conditions, but we expect to cover the following during the day:

  • Avalanche Forecasting
  • Picking the safest line
  • Group Management
  • Snow crystal structure
  • Avalanche transceivers
  • Search organisation

We will finish at about 1600 with a debrief down in Argentiere.
