Off Piste Ski Guiding

I guide groups off piste at any level all over this end of the Alps. In Chamonix we have all the classic areas of Les Grands Montets, Le Tour (a personal favourite of mine) and the world famous Vallée Blanche.

Intro Off Piste Courses

Conditions are generally good for off-piste skiing from Christmas through to the end of April. I can't guarantee knee-deep powder and blue skies every day, but I can promise you variety!

Avalanche Awareness

If you're planning to ski off-piste, then some knowledge of avalanche awareness is vital. This one day course will give you an introduction to the risks, how best to avoid them, and how to search for buried skiers if the worst should happen.

Off Piste Skiing

Off piste or backcountry skiing is one of the most exhilarating ways of moving over snow. The stunning mountain scenery, the solitude and silence away from the tourist resorts, the infinite variety of snow and the ski techniques to deal with them combine into a heady mixture that's hard to beat. If you can ski parallel on a red piste, then the way is open to discover this new world.

Chamonix is a world centre for off piste, with a wide variety of runs to suit everyone from the beginner to the seasoned freerider. The world famous Vallée Blanche is many people's first off piste experience, descending 2000m from the summit of the Aiguille du Midi back to Chamonix. Many other runs of this quality exist throughout Chamonix. Still more terrain is available just over the Swiss border at Verbier, and heli-skiing in Italy is just 30 minutes away through the Mont Blanc tunnel.

You can ski off-piste in Chamonix from Christmas through to the end of April, and itineraries are flexible to suit your ambition and abilities. Click on the links to the left for some examples of what I have on offer this winter:

Ski Safaris

A ski safari is a journey through the mountains on skis, and is often referred to as “touring without tears”!

"

Many thanks for a superb week. I learnt more about off piste skiing in a few days than any amount of standard ski-school could have taught me, and found myself skiing down much steeper slopes in much deeper snow than I would have ever dared do previously.
