The alpine summer has started with a splash! Good for the flora but not great for alpinism.
For most of May we've had unstable weather patterns sweeping across Chanonix, with the southerly föhn blowin for much of the time. In the last week, there have been violent afternoon thunderstorms, with the snow rain limit between 2500 and 3000m. This is great for the glaciers in the long term for the summer, but early visitors to the western alps might need to come prepared for some trail breaking of leaving the more popular tourinst trails.
