Arc'teryx pro rider Erik Finseth drops in
on the back side of Les Houches.
It's a fantastic start to the winter season, with huge quantities of snow in Chamonix. I had my second day on skis and first day of work on the 3rd December in Les Houches with a group of ski mag editors, pro riders and the design team from Arc'teryx.
There is a good stable base at altitudes up to 1800m, and the powder has been sensational. It's tempting to think it might be early season euphoria, but the general feeling, even amongst the die hard pessimists, is that it's a pretty good start for the winter.
Grands Montets opens for the weekend on Saturday the 4th, and we are told it will remain open from the 11th onwards. Courmayeur opened today, and Les Houches will open partially tomorrow.

Bring on the winter!
