Relaxed Silvretta Tour

The aim of this tour in the classic Silvretta region is to provide for folk who want a more relaxed approach to touring. The emphasis will be on enjoyment and comfort, with two nights in each hut enabling people to take a rest or have a shorter day if required. These huts are among the most comfortable in the Alps !

For photos of this tour, please see the images in the Silvretta Gallery. For a more prosaic description, please see the Eagle Ski Club report by Peter Wolf.

Our departure point for this tour will be Ischgl, circulating clockwise via the huts, with the option to bail northwards at any time if weather or snow conditions dictate.

Location:

We will meet in Landeck which is readily accessible via plane and train. Andy Perkins will be driving from Chamonix on the afternoon of the 31st March and will be happy to share petrol costs.

Accommodation:

We will convene in a hotel in Landeck. Accommodation on the tour will be in the luxurious huts for which Austria in General and Silvretta in particular are renowned.

Standard:

E1/2: This is normal hut to hut touring. There will be options for shorter days if required. Nevertheless, we have climbs of 700m to transfer from one hut to the next on 2 out of the 6 days.

S2: The terrain will be reasonable.

M1: Although we will have crampons and ice axe with us, there will be no full on alpinism involved.

Planned itinerary:

Please bear in mind that any part of the itinerary may be modified to allow for weather, snow conditions etc.

The plan is to ski off piste in Ischgl, followed by a night in the Heidelberger hut, 2 nights in the Jamtal hut and 2 final nights in the Wiesbadner hut. This is subject to weather, snow conditions and peoples’ energy levels.

Day 1: Travel to Landeck and meet in the Tourotel.

Day 2: Ski off piste in Ischgl and then a short skin or a tow with a skidoo to the Heidelberger hut.

Day 3: Traverse from the Heidelberger hut to the Jamtal hut via the Zahnjoch or the Kronenjoch, involving 700m of ascent.

Day 4: A day tour from the Jamtal hut, for which there are many options from 3 hours of ascent and upwards.

Day 5: Traverse from the Jamtal to the Wiesbadner hut, again with a 700m ascent required.

day 6: Day tour from the Wiesbadner hut.

Day 7: Exit from the Wiesbadner hut via the Ochsental and a skidoo tow to Galtur.
