Ski Touring combines the skills of skiing and mountaineering to take you into the heart of the mountains.
Away from the lift systems, we have all the challenge of the mountains…
...the fitness needed to walk uphill, extra skills to climb up as well as ski down, navigation, avalanche awareness and with those challenges are the rewards - skiing above the clouds in a remote environment, the fresh tracks leading from the top of the mountain, and the welcome beer in an alpine hut after a full day in the mountains.
Ski touring was invented in the European Alps with its wide variety of terrain and comprehensive network of mountain huts.The Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt is the most well known, but the potential for mountain exploration on skis from as far apart as Val d'Isere to Grindelwald and from Chamonix to Cortina. To start ski touring, you need to have had some experience off piste. There's no minimum fitness level, but the fitter you are, the more you'll enjoy it!
Most multi-day touring takes place when the mountain huts are open from mid March to the end of April. Day tours from a base in the valley can happen anytime from December to the end of April, and there are a few huts that are open right through the winter. Itineraries are flexible to suit your ambition and abilities. Please contact me for details.
