Big Wall Experience
Big wall climbing is a super-intense experience. Living in a vertical environment for day after day requires some very particular techniques and the learning curve can be as steep as the rock!
I’ve climbed El Capitan in Yosemite by several different routes and have then exported those techniques to the mountains of the Himalaya.
I’ve run introduction to big walls in the UK and here in France, and from there the possibilities are endless. Although Yosemite is rightly considered the touchstone of big wall climbing, it can be quite full-on as a first experience, and I thoroughly recommend Zion National Park as a gentler introduction. Slightly shorter routes, easy approaches and descents allow us to concentrate on the techniques as well as the logistics and maximise on climbing time.
To get involved in big walls, you should ideally be able to climb at British VS.
