Hi Andy,

What skis do you think would be best for the Haute Route. I have a pair of very eide off piste skiis with touring bindings and make all snow conditions very easy, but might be more challenging uphill, or a pair of touring skiis that do do ski as well at all, but will ascend much better?

Hi Richard,

All skis are going to be a compromise. A super wide ski is going to give you a smooth descent in the fluffiness, but you are going to need large legs when skinning uphill! For the last few years, I've been skiing offpiste on K2 Apache Outlaws (fat and heavy) and touring on Dynastar Legend 4800 (which are much more twitchy) in a 172cm (so easier to kick turn with). If you fancy a halfway house between the two, try the K2 Apache Recon, and get the weight down by using Dynafit Tourlite Tech bindings.

There are so many skis out there, it's impossible to try them all, so if anyone else has any suggestions, please do chip in!
