Hi Andy
i have just puchased a new set of skins for my salomon czars. my question is rather than buy another set of skins for my dynastar mythical riders, whould you cut the skins to fit the narrow ski and use for both skis? not much of aquestion but I never make a move on equipment with out running it past you. cheers Andy

As it happens, Paul, it's a very good question. My answer would be as follows:

It's more important to have skin coverage at the edge of the ski than the middle. So the solution is to cut the skins to fit the narrower skis, then carefully put a slit longitudinally down the middle of the skin, starting about 10cm from the tip. When you fit the skins to the narrower skis, this slit is completely closed up, but when fitted to the wider skis, the two strips of skin are placed so that they fit just next to the outside edge, leaving an uncovered gap down the middle of the ski base.

Ski mountaineering racers employ this technique to reduce the weight of skins on their feet so the can skin uphill at ludicrously high speed, but it also means the skin can be used on different widths of ski if required.
